Lawn Chair

When I visited my grandparents as a kid, the lawn sprinklers turning on signaled “happy hour.” My grandfather would sit on the patio and relax while he admired his lawn. In the United States, the lawn is the largest irrigated crop. To some, lawns represent leisure; to others, it is a monocrop devoid of ecological diversity. To me, lawns represent our control over nature, our ability to force it to conform to our preferences. In Lawn Chair, I force the lawn into a shape I associate with leisure.
